September 29, 2014Description: On October 17, 2014, the New Jersey State Bar Association will hold a General Council Program, “Age and Its Impact on the Law” at the Law Center in New Brunswick. This distinguished panel will examine the multitude of impacts that age has on the practice of law in New Jersey. This will include a review of elder law issues such as the shrinking availability of long term care facilities and the
Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, employment law issues such as what New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination provides and retirement in law firms, and family law issues involving alimony and retirement. The panel will also explore the Buckner case on recall judges which is before the New Jersey Supreme Court, and pending legislation which would enact a constitutional amendment increasing the mandatory retirement age for judges from 70 to either 72 or 75 years old. Dialogue with and questions from the audience are encouraged.
